Freesia - most common types of flower
Freesia, along with such bulbous traditional plants like gladioli, has gained popularity among flower growers, as it’s a bright, colorful, surprisingly fragrant plant with flowers of a unique bell-shaped form. The experience that you probably got when growing gladioli as a florist, is useful in working with Freesia. In natural conditions, this plant grows in South Africa and has about 20 species.
Freesia flower belongs to the family of iris plants. South Africa is a home these types of flowers, there are about 20 species of it, but only one species is used in for cultivations and orders from flowers online shops – artificially cultivated Freesia.
The color of inflorescences of this plant is quite diverse. The flower, as a rule, are monophonic, however, there are Freesia types of flowers which petals have a striped color. The majority of flowers have an aroma that, depending on the variety, can be fruity, sweet or even spicy.
The huge popularity of Freesia is due to external characteristics - a height from 20 to up to 40 inches, elongated foliage and a strong aroma of colorful and bright blossoms during flowering. The plant can be recommended by the florist not only to decorate household plots but also for bouquets.
Freesia flowers online are possible to order all year round. When buying these types of flowers from florist online, pay attention to how many inflorescences have opened on the stem: you should purchase those stems with one or two open inflorescences because the stem with fully closed green buds will never "mature" and turn into tender fragrant flowers.
Freesia is sensitive to ethylene, so treatment with an anti-ethylene agent is very important here. It can extend the life of the flower in a vase by 20 to 35 percent to four or eight days. After obtaining freesia from the florist, you can cut from each stem about one inch and place freesia in water. You can keep the flower at the room temperature until they open up to the desired size.
The flowering period depends on the timing of planting. Most often Freesia types of flowers bloom in winter (indoor) and from April to July (outdoor).
